Information for New Sonoran Desert Crew Members

Congratulations and welcome aboard the Southwest Conservation Corps! SCC will challenge you, but it may well be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. You can maximize your experience by being well prepared, so please read all of the enclosed materials very carefully.

Start Date and Time

Your first day of the session begins at 7 A.M. at our office located at 1376 W. St. Mary’s Rd Tucson, AZ 85745. We will provide a light breakfast, and the first Monday will be spent in Orientation.  So come well rested, hydrated and ready to learn about the great adventure you are about to embark.

Paperwork

Below you will find documents available for you to download and review. Although the Tucson Newcomers’ Guide is an optional resource, we expect that you will read though and understand the Gear List and Corpsmember Handbook. If you have questions about information within these materials please contact the Tucson SCC Recruiter, 520.884.5550×1.

Please fill out the tax forms, medical form, direct deposit, background check and contract (emailed individually) and mail them back to the SCC Tucson office by the day stated in your welcome e mail.  If we do not receive the admissions paperwork by the due date you will be forfeiting your position with us.  We also need copies of documents that verify your identity and employment eligibility. Please see the information below or the I-9 Form for more information pertaining to ID’s.

  • Direct Deposit Form *you will need to send us a voided check or a direct deposit form from your bank.

  • You must also send copies of:
    1. Photo ID (Driver’s license, State ID, picture school ID)
    2. Passport or Birth Certificate
    3. Social Security Card.

You must complete and send all admissions paperwork, if we don’t have these document one week prior to orientation you position will be forfeited.   all documents can be found

Parking

Crew members please be aware that we will not be able to accommodate crew member vehicles while you are in the field. Please make arrangements for parking your vehicle prior to arriving to Tucson. However, to assist you, we have located FREE parking at the City of Tucson Rillito Police Department Station on the Northeast Corner of Flowing Wells Road and Miracle Mile and a SCC lot roughly two miles from the office. Please do not sleep in your car while it is parked here and know that it will not be monitored by the Police Department as this is a public lot.

AmeriCorps:

Individuals who will be participating in AmeriCorps will be required to complete additional paperwork during orientation. Additionally, all AmeriCorps participants are REQUIRED to have a Social Security Card and SCC will need a copy of this card to keep on file.

Schedule, Time Off and Budgeting: You will not receive your first living allowance check until the Friday after the end of your first hitch. Please be prepared to cover your personal expenses until that date.
