Information for New Hires

Congratulations and welcome aboard the Southwest Conservation Corps! SCC may challenge you, but it may well be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. You can maximize your experience by being well prepared, so please read all of the enclosed materials very carefully.

Start Date and Time: Orientation and Registration begins at 9 A.M. at our office in The Commons building located in downtown Durango (click here for directions).  This will be a very busy day, so please be on time.


Paperwork: Please fill out the following information and mail it back to the SCC office BEFORE your start date.  We also need copies of documents that verify your identity and employment eligibility.  Please see the information below or the I-9 Form for more information pertaining to ID’s.

ALL of the above must be sent to the SCC office before you show up for service. If you are not able to, you must call and let us know immediately.

AmeriCorps:

Individuals who will be participating in AmeriCorps will be required to complete additional paperwork during orientation.  Additionally, all AmeriCorps participants are REQUIRED to have a Social Security Card and SCC will need a copy of this card to keep on file.

Schedule, Time Off and Budgeting: The first paycheck is scheduled to arrive within the first three weeks of service.  Please be prepared to cover your personal expenses until that date.

What to Bring: Be sure to make good decisions when packing. We encourage you to follow the Clothing and Equipment list exactly – it is the result of years of experience! Pay extra attention to your boot choice.

LIST OF ACCEPTABLE DOCUMENTS

Below is a list of the most common types of identification that can be used for employment purposes.  SCC needs a copy of one document from List A or copies of one document from List B and one document from List C.  AmeriCorps participants are also required to have a Social Security Card.  Please feel free to contact us with any questions or for clarification.

Driver’s license or ID card issued by a state or outlying possession of the United States provided it contains a photograph, or information such as name, date of birth, gender, height, eye color and address

U.S. Social Security card issued by the Social Security Administration

Permanent Resident Card or Alien Registration Receipt Card

ID card issued by federal, state or local government agencies or entities, provided it contains a photograph or information such as name, date of birth, gender, height, eye color, and address.

Certification of Birth Abroad issued by the Department of State

An unexpired foreign passport with a temporary I-551 stamp

School ID Card with a photograph

Original or certified copy of a birth certificate issued by a state, county or municipal authority or outlying possession of the United States bearing an official seal

Native American tribal document

An unexpired employment Authorization Document that contains a photograph

Voter’s Registration Card

Native American tribal document

U.S. Military Card or draft record

For persons under the age of 18 who are unable to present a document listed above:
