The program also includes an education component, which emphasizes community exploration, local ecology, life skills training, civic responsibility, etc.
General Qualifications: Though no experience is required, here are some things to keep in mind when you work with Southwest Conservation Corps.
• Safety – Being safe in the field is our top concern. When engaging in physical labor, safety becomes even more important. You will be expected to take a serious attitude toward safety all day and every day while working in the field.
• Commitment – Crew Members must make a strong commitment to complete the program. You will challenge yourself, work hard, and be committed to doing the best that you can.
• Professionalism – Crew Members must be willing to appropriately represent Southwest Conservation Corps and, when applicable, the AmeriCorps Program. Members are also required to be tolerant of diversity; respecting the differences of others.
• Teamwork – Crew Members must be willing to work hard, participate as part of a team, and be dedicated to the Southwest Conservation Corps’ mission.
• Substance Free – Corpsmembers MUST be willing and able to refrain from the use of alcohol and drugs while participating
in the SCC program.
• Fitness – Projects involve hiking, heavy lifting and repetitive motions. Projects can sometimes take place at high elevations; above 8,500 feet. Members are expected to be ready to confront these conditions.

Community corps programs will definitely be running in communities throughout the San Luis Valley of Colorado. Please check back in mid-March for additional details.
