About the Area:

Salida is a relatively small, rural community in the heart of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. Chaffee County boasts 14 peaks over 14,000 feet in elevation and is known for its recreational opportunities such as hiking, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, skiing, hot springs, fly fishing, and more. Located in the Upper Arkansas River Valley, Salida is surrounded by the Sawatch mountain range to the northwest, Sangre de Cristo range to the south, and the Mosquito range to the north. These mountains contribute to Salida’s mild climate and the region is known as Colorado’s Banana Belt creating ideal conditions for year-round outdoor recreation. In addition, the Arkansas River runs through Salida and the town is bustling with whitewater rafters and kayakers during the summer season. The population ranges around 7,000 inhabitants during the summer months with Denver and Colorado Springs just over two hours away.
