Storm King Campground

Our crew’s final hitch involved upgrading and maintaining the Storm King Campground in the Rio Grande National Forest. This was accomplished in conjunction with Saguache Forest Service personnel. Most of our work involved building both wood and rock retaining walls for tent pads at the various campsites and subsequently filling them in with gravel before leveling and compacting. Most of the gravel moving was done with the assistance of a Backhoe, Skidster and Excavator operated by Bob and Junior from a contracting firm in the San Luis Valley. We were also aided by a firefighting group from the San Luis Valley in pouring the concrete for the entrance sign and information kiosk.
Most of our off-hours were spent doing yoga, meditating, creating Zen gardens and howling at the moon with our coyote brethren. We also took advantage of the diverse culinary resources at our disposal to create some particularly memorable dinners, such as chili cheese french fries, “Mexican Confetti,” and tuna onion grilled cheese casserole. These meals in turn inspired landmark advances in the field of vulgar bodily functions, a project spearheaded by our esteemed colleague, Dr. Jacobs.
