Crew #140 “Skywatchers!”

Sonoran Desert

My life was forever changed during this hitch when on Rec Day; we discovered the wonders of the Alamogordo Zoo.  For just one dollar and twenty five cents apiece we saw animal’s ranging from brown lemurs (which make “excellent pets”) to leanly kangaroos to wolves ferociously frolicking through sprinklers, all in just 5/8 of a mile!  Due to this experience, now when considering the purchase of a $3 bag of bagels or a $7 dollar t-shirt, I must stop and ask myself, “is this product really worth X amount of Alamogordo zoos?”  of ten, the answer is no.  Alamogordo zoo is just to awesome to compare, thanks Alamogordo zoo and SCC, for helping me appreciate the simple joys in life!

This first hitch has been amazing time of wonderful and new experices.  Probably some of the best new experiences were the delicious and inventive new recipes.  Camping backcountry as well as the no-flame fire ban lent itself to quite the creation of gourmet meals.  There is nothing like coming back to camp from a  ten hour day and a five mile hike and hearing the menu for dinner: beans, mashed potatoes and tuna.  Cold and all mixed together.  That hearty meal not only hits the spot taste wise but, is also surprisingly filling.  I will probably make it quite a few times after this summer.  And if that doesn’t sound good to you, you probably don’t have as sophisticated of a palate as Crew 140 Skywatchers.
