First Hitch-Sonoran Desert, 2011

Crew # 136

We got to our site in the Sonoran Desert National Monument at about 5 p.m. Monday evening, and set up camp pretty quickly.  There was some anxious anticipation about starting work the next day since I’ve never done dessert trail work.  Starting Tuesday at 6:00 a.m. was pretty easy.  And then we were on our way to work!  We were only picking up trash, but it was a good project for getting to know my fellow crew members….What else are you going to do?  Within the first couple hours, Sibyl, Nina, and I found 40 pounds undocumented immigrant trash- we realized then exactly how close we were to the border issues.  I never thought it would get this real, definitely an experience I will never forget.

I love the Sonoran Desert!
