Introducing Valley of the Sun Urban Corps!
Posted by SCC on Friday, January 16th, 2009.The morning dawned clear and bright in Phoenix where the Southwest Conservation Corps Staff gathered at the Bureau of Land Management Phoenix District Office to greet fourteen new crew members! Both East and West Valley crews were full after reviewing over forty applications.
The orientation allowed the new crew members to meet their crew leaders, rovers and one another while learning more about their upcoming adventure in the field. Although, the Valley of the Sun Youth Urban Corps would be day work, crew members were able to participate in a camping trip at Black Canyon for the first week of the session.
During introductions, SCC Staff Member Greg Hansen explained, “we have been planning this for 1¾ years! It is exciting to see all our efforts and planning come to fruition.” We believe this session was a strong start for SCC Youth Urban Corps programs in the Sonoran Desert.
