Leadership Development Crew – White Canyon

Posted by SCC on Thursday, November 6th, 2008.

Wow.  None of us can believe that our first session with SCC is half over.  Luckily we, the Leadership Development Crew, have two more sessions to look forward to.  This last hitch, we traveled to White Canyon to work on the unfinished Arizona Trail.  Transplanting cactus and demolishing anything else that blocked the three feet to either side of where the trail would be.  We successfully created two and a half miles of future trail corridor.  It was quite the satisfying feeling to finally reach the end.

As future crew leaders, we’ve also been focusing on the organization and education side of Corps life.  This hitch, we began making larger decisions for the crew, like how to set up camp and teaching our own education lessons on the history and geography of the Sonoran Desert.  We’re not experts yet, but that’s why we have three more hitches to go!

    Yeah White Canyon!

    I wondered if your kitchen
    is still nestled into
the legs of the great oak tree
    If the Western Spotted Skunk
    H A U N T S
    your Coleman/hot cocoa/micro-trash

I wonder if the sizable boulder we released
    still straddles the trail

    how many hitches
    until the brown hills
    are blooming?
