playing in the pondos, good-bye to Dave

It turns out that it’s hard to get pictures of a saw crew in action. If you’re taking a picture from an angle at which you can actually see the person’s face then you’re not standing in a safe place; if you’re taking a picture from any other angle, you’re taking a profile shot (if you’re lucky) of someone wearing safety gear – you can rarely see the person’s face.  So, alas, what are you left with but posed photos?!

We recently finished doing a fuels mitigation project outside of Durango.  Mostly we were cutting pondos with a few white spruces and gamble oaks mixed in; essentially using chainsaws to do the work that fires used to do in that area.  We had a blast but, sadly, our beloved co-leader, Dave, had to hit the road and get back home.  On the last day we went out in costume.  Dave dressed up in a cow costume and Lindsey made a brief appearance in a banana suit.  A bunch of us tried our best to look like Dave.   It’s a great crew and the work is really fun.  We’re starting to feel the cold, here!  Next hitch we are camping out near Dolores, Colorado and working on a tamarisk removal project.
